A Day in the Life of .... My Feet

Warmth and soft white sheets.
Short steps on stairs, cold white bathroom tiles.
The coziness of wool slippers.
Hot cereal boiling and the clink
of a bowl on marble counter top.

Work boots, heavy but dry.
Slip-sliding on wooden stairs then
mud and smooth stones.
Weeds and mulch smashed under thick tread,
gardening tools and a rake on the ground nearby.

Inside the studio. Smooth, clean
cement painted sky blue.
Many steps, carrying
glass pieces from kiln to water to table.
Glass grinder buzzing, respirator on.
Small piece of glass hits the floor
but doesn't break. Sigh of relief.

Back in the house, just socks now.
Pots and pans clinking, knife on cutting board.
Up stairs and under warm blankets.
Clicking of computer keys
then dark.
Wind pushing at windows
and rain tapping on the skylight.
